Close & idyllic
The facilities of COCOSTE Paradise are located approximately 8 km from the coastline. They are situated in a slightly elevated area, which is why it is safe from tsunamis. The beach is easily accessible with a Tuk Tuk or scooter. There are several small and desolate beaches that are perfect for sunbathing, snorkelling or surfing. The beach and surfing hotspots of Welligama and Unawatuna can be reached easily. Mirissa, the village where all the whale-watching ships depart from, also lies nearby.
‘Dikkumbura’, the next bigger village, lies two kilometres away from the lodge. From there, public busses (Connection – Junction Nr. 374) operate to Galle several times a day. You can also find all necessary products for daily use. Furthermore, there are snack stands with tasty, inexpensive curries.
Within a five minute walk from COCOSTE Paradise lies the Andugoda Puraana Rajamahaa Vihaaraya temple. This Buddhist temple branches out into the jungle over several stories and is a great place to spend some time in piece and quiet. There, you will find restfulness and time off the beaten tourist tracks. The silence is only broken by the cries of harmless monkeys in the trees. In addition to this beautiful, desolate area, you will find impressive flora and fauna in the forest.
Within 2.5 km lies lake ‘Borala Wewa’ with its little island Addarawela. The lake is covered with an enormous carpet of water lilies. There are numerous cosy spots to relax around the lake. Swimming in the lake, however, is not recommended, it is better to go to the sea for that. Opinions about the safety of the lake differ from ‘safe to swim in’ to ‘containing crocodiles’.
